Tackling the Future of Financial Services with Jane Hume

Written by Brett Kelly | 15 October 2020

This week’s edition of the Be Better Off Show features Jane Hume, Federal Senator for Victoria. As the Assistant Minister for Superannuation, Financial Services and Financial Technology, Jane shares with Brett her personal journey towards a career in politics.

As a ‘Melbourne girl through and through’, Janes shares her pathway from university into the workforce during a recession – an experience all too known during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jane and Brett discuss how entering the workforce during a recession helped mould their understanding of hard work and the value of job security in business.

When asked about returning to university as an adult to study politics, Jane says

“Politics for me went from an interest, to a hobby, to a bit of an obsession to a profession”

Throughout the podcast, Jane also sheds light on the future of superannuation and the relationship Australians have with it. From repositioning how Australians think about superannuation ownership to discussing how the system has become more efficient, the uncertainty surrounding super is debunked in this week’s episode.

"I think we're really lucky in Australia that we have such a mature, advanced and innovative financial services sector that can build the products around customer and member needs, and superannuation"
